Congressional Briefing: Senators Barbara Boxer and Joseph Biden united with renowned human rights leaders to urge U.S. ratification of CEDAW. July 30, 2002

Committee Votes Favorably on Treaty: The treaty was voted favorably out of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee by a vote of 12 to 7 on July 30, 2002. In the fall, the treaty will come before the full Senate for ratification.

June 13, 2002

Press Conference: At 9 a.m. Thursday, June 13, key Senators and House Members, heads of women’s organizations and supporters of the Treaty for the Rights of Women held a press conference at the U.S. Senate to demand ratification. The event was attended by more than 100 supporters representing diverse civic, religious and community organizations. Click here to see photos.

Hearing: The Senate Foreign Relations Committee convened on June 13 for a hearing on the Treaty for the Rights of Women (CEDAW). Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA), a long-time supporter of the Treaty and advocate for ratification, chaired the hearing. Sen. Joseph R.
